Seminario di Danza Butoh con Joan Laage  (Kogut Butoh)

Questo workshop è un processo di cancellazione e ricreazione del corpo attraverso improvvisazioni guidate ispirate alle immagini della natura.

Il training propone un metodo orientato a sperimentare il corpo e la mente con flessibilità e ad investigare l’estetica comune del Butoh, attraverso esplorazioni creative.Embody the Spirit   esplora le infinite domande: Cosa è la vita? Cosa è la condizione umana? Cosa è il corpo?

La struttura del seminario include varie esplorazioni del corpo fisico, naturale e in trasformazione. Nella danza Butoh è comune l’atto di trasformazione che parte dal corpo vuoto o invisibile, fatto di spazio vuoto o solo respiro, che può essere vissuto come spirito, e l’esplorazione di vari elementi e varie qualità corporali connesse agli elementi dell’acqua, della terra, del vento, del fuoco ecc.  Elaboreremo quindi vari tipi di materiali e incorporeremo spiriti, come un modo per dare vita ai nostri antenati e all’esistenza di innumerevoli esseri. Il lavoro in coppia aiuterà e accompagnerà i partecipanti attraverso viaggi individuali e collettivi.

Il seminario si basa sul training svolto da Joan con i Maestri Butoh: Kazuo Ohno e Yoko Ashikawa oltre che sulla sua formazione di praticante di Tai Chi e di giardiniera professionista.

Joan Laage: (Kogut Butoh ) ha studiato con i maestri butoh Kazuo Ohno e Yoko Ashikawa ( prima danzatrice della compagnia di Tatsumi Hijikata ) e si è esibita con il gruppo Gnome di Ashikawa alla fine degli anni 80, più di recente ha amato allenarsi con Atsushi Takenouchi. Dopo essersi stabilita a Seattle nel 1990, ha fondato la Dappin ‘Butoh, una compagnia nota per le sue apparizioni nei teatri non convenzionali di Seattle e nei festival di danza. Joan si è esibita e ha insegnato in festival nazionali e internazionali di danza e butoh, è stata un’artista al Butoh Symposium della UCLA nel maggio 2011, ed è stata un’insegnate aggiunta al Cornish College of The Arts (Seattle). È menzionata in Dancing Into Darkness: Butoh, Zen e Japan e Butoh: Danza metamorfica e alchimia globale di Sondra Horton Fraleigh. Si esibisce frequentemente nel Giardino Giapponese di Seattle, dove è docente. Joan è un membro fondatore del DAIPANbutoh Collective che produce un festival annuale di danza butoh a Seattle.

Nel  2017/18  Kea Tonetti partecipa alla performance Earth Tomes di Joan  allo Spazio Nu a Pontedera, e con Maruska Ronchi partecipa alla performance di Joan Three little Pierrot  allo Spazio Nu. Joan presenta allo Spazio Continuum a Milano il suo lavoro Rose  durante una serata con assoli di Kea Tonetti e Marek Jason Isleib.  Nel 2019 Joan torna a Milano per dirigere Remnants Project , residenza coreografica  per  6 perfromer,  e per performare con Kea  Due Piccoli Pierrot, che verrà in seguito portata al  Festival Butoh di Parigi, presso l’ Espace Culturel Bertin Poirée.

Butoh Workshop with Joan Laage  (Kogut Butoh)

This workshop is a process of erasing and re-creating the body through guided improvisation largely inspired by nature imagery.

Experience training methods towards a supple body and mind and investigate aesthetics common to butoh through creative explorations. ETS explores endless questions: What is life? What is the human condition? What is the body? The workshop structure includes explorations of physical, natural, and transforming bodies. It’s common in butoh to transform from empty or invisible bodies, bodies composed of empty space or only breath, which can be experienced as ghosts or spirits. It’s also common to explore body materials of the elements of water, earth, wind, fire, etc. In this workshop we will expand the kinds of materials and the ways of re-embodying ghost bodies as a way to breathe life into our ancestors and the existence of countless beings. Partner work will facilitate participants’ individual and collective journeys. The workshop draws from Joan’s training with Butoh Masters Kazuo Ohno, Yoko Ashikawa and Atsushi Takenouchi and her background as a Tai Chi practitioner and professional gardener.

Joan Laage (Kogut) studied under butoh masters Kazuo Ohno and Yoko Ashikawa and performed with Ashikawa’s group Gnome in Japan in the late 80s, and more recently, has enjoyed training with Atsushi Takenouchi. After settling in Seattle in 1990, she formed Dappin’ Butoh, a company known for its appearances in Seattle’s fringe theater and dance festivals. Joan has performed and taught at national and international butoh festivals, was a featured artist at the UCLA Butoh Symposium in May 2011 and has been an adjunct faculty at Cornish College of The Arts (Seattle). She is featured in Dancing Into Darkness: Butoh, Zen, And Japanand Butoh: Metamorphic Dance and Global Alchemyby Sondra Horton Fraleigh.She performs frequently at the Seattle Japanese Garden where she is a docent. Joan is a founding member of DAIPANbutoh Collective which produces an annual butoh festival in Seattle.

In 2017 and 2018, Kea Tonetti joined Joan’s Earth Tomes Project with performances at Spazio NU in Pontedera, and along with Maruska Ronchi, Kea performed Joan’s new work “Three Little Pierrots” at Spazio NU. Joan presented her work “Rose” at Kea’s studio on an evening with solos by Kea Tonetti and Marek Jason Isleib. In 2019, Joan returned to Milano to direct the “Remnants Project” and to perform Two Little Pierrot with Kea, that they also performed for the Paris Butoh Festival 2019 at the Espace Culturel Bertin Poirée.
